About Us

The firm of Larose McCallum architects was created in Montreal in 2008. Marc-Antoine Larose and Alexandre McCallum start their partnership while attending Université de Montréal’s school of architecture, and later on during the construction of personal projects, while they were acquiring experience in Montreal’s large architecture firms.

APPROACH

Each of the partners is responsible for the management and the follow-up of a given project from beginning to end. We share equally in the development of ideas and both contribute an objective look and critique to the design aspect.

The renovation or enlargement projects start with an observation and survey drawing phase to familiarize ourselves with the space. This step allows us to better understand the interconnection of the various elements and the constructed systems’ techniques, or how and mostly why the structure was built. Our intervention is underlines the contrast with the existing building so that the two entities (past and present, classical and modern) enhance each other.

The new construction projects are based on a thorough analysis of the historical, the cultural, and even the geographical context of the site. The project is then designed to integrate itself while bringing a critical look at that context without rejecting it. The project consequently inserts itself in the era in which it is built and it participates in the contemporary building heritage.
